7-STEM schools full operational – Education Minister

The full operationalization of seven STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) schools has been declared by the Ministry of Education.

They are the Koase Sec/Tech (an existing school) in the Ahafo Region, the Accra High School (engineering only) in the Greater Accra Region, and the Kpesemkpe STEM School (newly constructed) in the North East Region.

The Awaso STEM School is in the Western Region, the Abomosu STEM School is in the Eastern Region, the Bosomtwe Girls STEM School and the Bosomtwe STEM School are both in the Ashanti Region.

The Computerized Schools Selection and Placement (CSSPS) for the 2023 academic year has included the seven.

The fact that just roughly 12% of SHS students are currently enrolled in the sciences, according to Dr. Nkansah, is illuminating.

He emphasized that the pipeline of students needed to reach the 60:40 science-to-humanities ratio target envisioned by our Education Strategic Plan (ESP 2018-2030) will not be produced at this level of scientific enrollment.

In order to better the enrollment in Science and the caliber of instruction, he said, the government was extending and updating the Science Resource Centers of several current senior high schools.
