Any teacher who beats student in class will be charged with assault, Education Minister.

Recently, the Education Minister in Ghana announced that any teacher who beats a student in class will be charged with assault. This announcement was made after several incidents of corporal punishment were reported in schools across the country.

In an interview on Adom Fm’s Dwaso Nsem show, the minister of education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, said that any teacher who strikes a student in class will face assault charges. He claims that some teachers may cane students out of rage, injuring the student.

Corporal punishment is defined as the use of physical force causing pain or discomfort as a means of discipline. Many countries have already banned this practice, recognizing that it can cause physical and emotional harm to children.

In some places, teachers who use corporal punishment can face disciplinary action or even criminal charges.

The Education Minister’s announcement sends a clear message that such behavior will not be tolerated in schools. Teachers are entrusted with the responsibility of educating and nurturing children, and physical violence has no place in this process.
