Donating blood saves lives—become a blood donor today!
In order to increase the supply at the National Blood Bank, the Ministry of Information will organize a blood donation and health screening exercise in conjunction with its press pool as part of its corporate social responsibility.
The blood drive begins on July 27, 2022, at 9:30 a.m. in the ministry’s parking lot.
In the modern world, blood transfusions are commonplace. In fact, about 42,000 pints of blood are used in hospitals every day to save lives and treat patients with serious injuries or diseases like cancer and leukemia.
But to make sure there’s enough blood on hand to handle all those transfusions, there needs to be more people giving blood on a regular basis.
Donating blood can seem scary at first, I know I was terrified of needles as a kid but it’s actually safe and easy, takes less than an hour from start to finish, and you get an ice cream cake after!
Why donating blood is important
Every two seconds, someone in the Ghana needs blood.
Blood transfusions are needed for numerous medical procedures including cancer treatment, heart surgery, and emergency situations.
A single car accident victim can require as many as 100 pints of blood.
Type O-negative blood (red cells) is the universal blood type and can be safely transfused to patients of all blood types.
How can I donate?
The first step is to find out if you’re eligible to donate. You can do this by checking the requirements on the website of https://web.facebook.com/moi.gov.gh your country’s blood donation service or by contacting them directly.
If you’re eligible, the next step is to make an appointment. When you go to donate, you will be asked to fill out a health history questionnaire and have a mini-physical to check your hemoglobin levels and blood pressure.
If everything looks good, you will be able to donate!

There are many reasons to become a regular blood donor. Perhaps the most important reason is that it can save lives.
