Earth Tremors: Public should remain calm – NADMO.
“Today, 12th December 2022, citizens of Accra, Kasoa and their environs have experienced two (2) Earth Tremors in the morning and around 11:55 a.m.
NADMO is working closely with the Ghana Geological Survey Authority (GGSA) to obtain the exact details of tremor including the magnitude and epicenters.
The public will be duly informed of any development. The tremors were not damaging and there is no reported destruction of lives and properties. NADMO calls on all citizens to remain calm. They are encouraged to go about their normal duties.
Home owners in affected areas are encouraged to inspect their buildings for possible cracks and seek technical advice from Engineers and other building experts.
Information sharing is important but let’s be mindful of the kinds of information we absorb on social media in order to safe and go about our duties without fear and needless panic”.
Public should remain calm during earth tremors
Earth tremors can be a frightening experience, especially when it is your first time experiencing them. They can cause a lot of fear and confusion, which can lead to panic and chaos.
It is important for the public to remain calm during these natural occurrences, as panicking can cause more harm than the tremors themselves.
In this blog post, we will discuss the importance of staying calm during earth tremors, and how to best react when experiencing them.
What are earth tremors?
Earth tremors, also known as earthquakes, are one of the most destructive natural disasters on the planet. They occur when two large tectonic plates, which form the surface of the earth, move past each other.
This movement creates seismic waves that travel through the earth’s crust and can cause massive destruction. In some cases, the energy released from an earthquake can cause significant damage to buildings, roads, bridges, and other infrastructure.
Earth tremors can range from very small, barely perceptible vibrations to major earthquakes that can last for minutes. The intensity of an earthquake is measured using the Richter scale, which ranges from 1 to 10; a magnitude 5 earthquake is considered strong enough to cause moderate damage.
Earthquakes occur all over the world, but are more frequent and powerful in certain areas. The Pacific Ring of Fire, a region of high seismic activity around the Pacific Ocean, is the most seismically active region on the planet.
It is important to stay calm during an earthquake. If you are indoors, make sure to drop down onto your hands and knees to protect yourself from falling objects. If you are outdoors, stay away from trees, power lines, and buildings.
Seek shelter in an open area such as a park or open field. Remember that aftershocks can occur after a major earthquake, so remain alert and pay attention to news and updates about the situation.
What should you do if you experience an earth tremor?
Earth tremors can be a scary and unsettling experience, especially if you’ve never experienced one before. It is important to remember that the majority of earth tremors are small and rarely cause any significant damage.
However, if you do experience an earth tremor it is important to remain calm and take the appropriate steps to protect yourself and those around you.
If you are indoors when an earth tremor strikes, stay inside and away from windows and outside walls. Move away from items that could fall, such as large furniture, light fixtures, or heavy objects.
If you are outdoors, move away from buildings and tall structures, power lines, and overpasses.
If you are in a vehicle, pull over and stop. Do not drive through an area where there is shaking or signs of a potential collapse.
Remain in your vehicle until the shaking stops.
The most important thing to remember during an earth tremor is to stay calm. Taking the proper precautions can help keep you safe during an earth tremor.
Why is it important to remain calm during an earth tremor?
Earth tremors can be a terrifying experience, as the ground shakes and you are left feeling helpless and out of control. It is important to remain calm during an earth tremor, as it is the best way to stay safe and protect yourself.
In times of extreme stress or panic, people may make decisions that put them at risk or harm themselves or others. By staying calm, you can better assess your surroundings and determine what actions you should take.
It is important to remember that the tremor will likely pass quickly, so staying calm will help you to remain focused and be better prepared for the situation.
When an earth tremor strikes, the first thing to do is to find somewhere safe and secure. If you are indoors, find a sturdy table or desk to get under, or hide in a doorway. If you are outside, move away from buildings and power lines, and stay in an open area.
It is important to stay away from windows and heavy furniture to reduce the risk of injury.
It is also important to stay away from elevators, as they can be dangerous during a tremor. If you are in an elevator when an earthquake strikes, crouch down and cover your head and neck with your hands. Do not leave the elevator until it has stopped moving.
Once the tremor has passed, stay alert for aftershocks. Aftershocks are usually weaker than the original quake, but can still be dangerous. Remain alert for additional earthquakes and pay attention to news reports for updates on any further activity.
Remaining calm during an earth tremor is essential for ensuring your safety and the safety of those around you. Remember to take the necessary precautions and stay focused on the task at hand.
