Frank Lampard returns to Chelsea as caretaker manager.

Just over two years after the club fired him, Frank Lampard has been named Chelsea’s interim manager until the end of the current campaign.

The 44-year-old was the Blues’ former manager from July 2019 to January 2021, when Thomas Tuchel took over.

His unexpected return to Stamford Bridge comes after Graham Potter, Tuchel’s replacement, was fired on Sunday with the team in the Premier League’s bottom half.

At a news conference, Lampard stated: “It’s a really simple choice for me. My club is this. I feel a lot of different emotions.

“I arrived with the hope that I could support the cause through the rest of the campaign.

Till the end of the season, I’ll do everything in my power to satisfy the supporters.

“The squad has a lot of talent. I’m eager to assist them and work with their talent.

Very thrilling. It was my first time returning since I had previously departed when I was there on Tuesday (for the draw against Liverpool). Being back at Stamford Bridge was a wonderful atmosphere.

You never know what choice the club will make, so it was unexpected. This season has seen a lot of change in the Premier League.

The problem is significant, but aren’t they all? I feel nothing but pity for any management who loses their job. I’m prepared to work hard and approach this task day by day.

Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, the co-controlling owners of Chelsea, issued the following statement: “We are happy to welcome Frank back to Stamford Bridge.

Frank is a legend at this club and a member of the Premier League Hall of Fame. We want to give the team and our supporters a precise and steady strategy for the rest of the season as we continue our meticulous and exhaustive search for a new head coach.
