GES, NaCCA confused over 2024 BECE compulsory and optional subjects -Kofi Asare
According to recent sources, there is significant ambiguity and contradicting information about the subjects that are required and elective for Ghana’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in 2024. To shed light on this issue, it’s crucial to rely on reliable sources of information.
The courses that will be included in the 2024 BECE have been formally revealed by the Ghana Education Service (GES), allowing students to be ready for this important exam. Careful considerations have been taken by the GES, in cooperation with the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) and other stakeholders, to establish a more targeted and significant learning environment.
The GES states that applicants will be evaluated in nine subjects beginning with the 2024 BECE. These foundational courses consist of eight subjects: Social Studies, Mathematics, English language, Integrated science, Career Technology, Creative Arts Design as Mandatory Subjects and a Ghanaian language as Elective Subject. It is significant to remember that the course “French, Arabic and Computing are Optional subject” is no longer compulsory for student.
The number of subjects for the 2024 BECE has been the subject of speculations and contradictory claims, but the GES has clarified that applicants will actually write nine subjects in the next exam, dispelling earlier allegations of a different number of subjects.
In an effort to improve the examination procedure and better prepare students for the dynamic world they will enter, the GES decided to change the topic categories for the BECE in 2024. This modification is also in line with how Ghanaian education is developing and how the new Common Core Curriculum is being implemented.
It’s critical that parents, teachers, and students depend on official GES and NaCCA announcements for up-to-date information about the subjects that will be evaluated in the 2024 BECE. This will guarantee that pupils can fully study for the test and comprehend what is expected of them.
To sum up, the GES has formally verified that the courses included in the 2024 BECE would be mathematics, English language, integrated science, a language spoken in Ghana, and general knowledge. This choice attempts to give students a thorough framework for assessment and indicates a strategic approach to curriculum creation.
