GES Promotion & Upgrading: The unfair treatment to teachers is disgraceful.
According to the English Standard Version, it’s said that Where there is no revelation, people cast off restraint; but blessed is he who keeps the law.
I feel being a teacher myself, I really should try to explain why [blank] can be deemed as unfair treatment to teachers from my experience of working in the education sector for almost 10 years now.
As there are so many complaints out there and the implementation of this program has affected so many teachers’ livelihoods, it has become unbearable to not say something about this issue.
Introduction
In the past few years, the GES promotion and upgrading has been a disgrace to all teachers. It’s not fair that we are being treated this way when we have been working so hard for these past years.
We work hard teaching our students and raising their test scores but in return we get nothing. This year, everyone wants a new GES promotion and upgrading but it’s not fair that only a few people are getting it.
The Unfair Treatment of Teachers
In my opinion, the promotion and upgrading system of GES has been rather unfair. Teachers are judged by their students’ exam results, but this does not take into account how hard a teacher has worked with their students. It also does not take into account the different qualities of classes that teachers teach in.
The Consequences of the Unfair Treatment
The way the Ghana Education System (GES) promotion and upgrading process has been handled by the Ministry of Education in recent years has been nothing short of disgraceful.
It’s obvious that they care much more about how their system looks than what it means for the people who work hard every day, doing their best to help others.
This is reflected in the lack of support given to GES-trained teachers, who are often left feeling helpless, frustrated and unappreciated.
The Way Forward
GES promotion and upgrading must not be based on performance. It should be based on the need of the job.
If a teacher needs a higher certification in order for them to teach their subject, then they should be given that certification without having to go through any unnecessary hoops.
And when it comes down to promotion, if there are multiple teachers who are highly qualified for the position but only few can be promoted, then that one should be chosen regardless of how long they have been teaching.
