How to Add a Gmail Account to Your iPhone in 2 Steps

As one of the most popular email providers, Gmail has become more than just a way to manage your inbox, it’s also become an easy way to communicate with businesses, family and friends no matter where you are in the world.

It makes sense that many people are looking to connect their Gmail account to their iPhone so they can manage all of their email from one screen.

Here’s how to add your Gmail account to your iPhone in 2 steps!

Step 1: Enable 2-Step Verification

If you haven’t enabled two-step verification for your account, start by doing so. In your Google account settings, go to Signing in to Google and look for 2-Step Verification.

Click on that, then click Set up. You can choose between using an app password or using text messages as your second factor of authentication when logging into your account.

Step 2: Download Google Authenticator

Google Authenticator is a free, open-source app that generates passcodes for use with two-step verification. You can download it here! Google Authenticator – Apps on Google Play

Step 3: Connect to Gmail

Now that you’ve got your phone number linked up with Google Voice, you’ll need to log into your Gmail account on your iPhone.

Open up the Settings app, then tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Find and tap on Google Account; once you do, type in your username and password.

Step 4: Set Up Push Notifications

Once you’ve added your Google account, tap on Mail. Scroll down and tap on Fetch New Data. From here, make sure Push is turned On (see image above).

That’s it! You’re all set up for push notifications from your Gmail account.

Step 5: Optional Bonus Steps

Signing into your Google account on your iPhone is only part of it; you also have to set up email (to get push notifications), and find your favorite Gmail apps for iOS.
