No SIM card will be blocked – Sam George assures Ghanaians.
Following the controversy surrounding the government’s proposal to block mobile phone SIM cards, the latest addition to this list of speakers has been the MP for Ningo-Prampram, Sam George.
Speaking to reporters at an event today, the Minister outlined his reasons for not supporting the proposal and commented that he believed it would likely cause more harm than good in its current form.
The minister stated that he was concerned about how such a law would be implemented in practice and also stated that there were better ways to deal with such issues than blocking SIM cards entirely.
“The Ghanaians who are waiting for the NIA to create their Ghana Cards now have a triumph. For God and Country,” some of the tweet’s text stated, according to the MP.”
The Possible Impact
In response to a question about the potential impacts of no sim cards being blocked, Sam George said, I think that from what we have seen in the last couple of days, there is no need for blocking any numbers because we are trying to reach out to people who are in distress.
There’s a lot of speculation surrounding the future of the freedom to communicate following this announcement.
Sam Nartey George, the MP for Ningo-Prampram, has reassured Ghanaians who haven’t been able to re-register their SIM cards that their cards won’t be barred after the deadline on Friday.
The Minister for Communication and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, announced that the deadline for the SIM card re-registration is Friday, September 30, 2022.
What Can We Do?
In the age of terrorism, it is becoming increasingly difficult for us to know if we are safe or not. It’s a constant state of fear and paranoia that we all have to live with. But what can we do?
We can take back control by being more informed. There are plenty of ways to keep up on the latest news stories and stay in touch with friends and family without having to rely on a cell phone company.
