ECG to Ghanaians: Our meters are not for sale, stop using middlemen to acquire them
In the past one year, there has been an increasing trend in which people are buying ECG machines from overseas markets and selling them to Ghanaians on the streets.
If you know anything about ECG machines, you’ll know that it is illegal to do so without the permission of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
Theresa Osabutey, the head of communications at ECG, said that anyone who used a middleman or agent did so at their own risk because the firm had not employed their services.
A message from ECG
We would like to remind our customers that our meters are not for sale. We have been receiving reports of people being scammed by middlemen who promise to sell them our meters.
Please be aware that these individuals do not represent ECG and that we will never sell our meters through third-party channels.
What happened?
Recently, there have been reports of people impersonating ECG staff and selling meters to the public. We want to remind our customers that ECG does NOT sell meters and that anyone claiming to be selling ECG meters is doing so illegally.
If you are approached by someone claiming to be selling ECG meters, please report this immediately to the police. Don’t let these criminals take advantage of you!
Why We Are Not Offering New Meters through Agents
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) would like to inform the general public that it is not currently selling new meters through agents. We have come to this decision for a few reasons.
The Impact of Middlemen on Public Sectors
In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of middlemen selling ECG products and services to the public. This has led to a decrease in the quality of services and an increase in the cost of equipment’s.
The impact of these middlemen on public sectors is significant. They often sell products that are not safe or effective, and they frequently overcharge for their services. This puts people at risk and can lead to a decline in their patronage.
Who Is Affected?
This message is directed towards Ghanaians who have been purchasing electricity meters through middlemen. ECG wants to remind customers that meters are not for sale, and that the only way to get a meter is through ECG front desk.
Using a middleman can be expensive and dangerous, as there is no guarantee that the meter will work properly or that you will get your money back if there is a problem.
Who’s Buying Them?
Recently, there has been an influx of people purchasing ECG meters through unofficial channels. These middlemen often mark up the price of the meter, making it more expensive for the consumer.
Not only does this hurt the customer, but it also hurts ECG’s bottom line. We want to remind our Ghanaian customers that our meters are not for sale through these unofficial channels. If you are looking to purchase a meter, please go through our official website or authorized resellers only.
