Christian Atsu Twasam, a deceased member of the Black Stars, will be laid to rest today, March 17.

His lifeless remains will be transported to Dogobome in the Volta Region for burial after a burial and gratitude service at 9:00 am at the Forecourt of the State House.

The family will assemble later on March 19 for the last funeral ceremonies.

Family members and friends, including former and current Black Star players, are anticipated to begin filing past the body at 6:30 a.m. on Friday at the State House Forecourt.

In February, Christian Atsu passed away unexpectedly after a terrible 7.8-magnitude earthquake shook Turkey and Syria, with the southern city of Hatayspor being the worst-hit.

The Ghanaian footballer’s body was discovered beneath the debris of his residence after 12 days of searching.

On February 19, his body was flown back to Ghana by Turkish Airlines. Atsu, 31, participated in 65 games for the Black Stars and scored 19 goals. He has also played for top European teams including Chelsea, FC Porto, and Newcastle.

Atsu, who is now twenty years old, scored on his debut for the Black Stars in 2012 and went on to earn almost 60 caps for the senior national team.

He played for Ghana at both the 2015 African Cup of Nations and the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. He scored two goals to help Ghana advance to the final, where they lost to Cote d’Ivoire in a penalty shootout.

He did win the Tournament Goal of the Award and was named the Player of the Tournament.
