The Result Is Not Good – We Need To Play Better And Defend More, Carlo Ancelotti

Ancelotti: The result is not good. We need to play better and defend better. This is not the first time we have conceded many goals in a row… we need to play with more balance.

It’s impossible for us to always attack and then defend so bad. I think it’s important to stay calm because it’s just the beginning of the first leg, but that doesn’t mean we are happy with what happened today.

What Went Wrong?

As usual we are starting analysing the game looking for what went wrong and how to improve it. In the first case, we have to talk about the result. I think it is clear for everyone that the result is not good.

But I don’t think that this is a surprise for anyone, including us having remembered our performance against Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League.

That day we had a similar problem and I think that today has been more or less the same only with different consequences in terms of result.

When you’re a global brand and sporting event of the magnitude of the World Cup or Champions League, everything is magnified.

You can play well and win, or play poorly and lose. In the end, it’s all in the result. The question becomes: how do you react to those results?

Are you happy with the results?

It was a comprehensive defeat. The team played poorly, were the victims of their own mistakes and were punished by Manchester City incredible finishing.

We can’t allow the same thing to happen in the return leg at the Bernabéu or we’ll get knocked out.

Question About Whom To Take Penalty?

Ancelotti, I’m happy about the penalty taken by Benzema in the 84th minutes. Is it only because he was the first to shoot?

I would love to score a goal like that and it seems strange not to let him take that penalty.

We have never crossed his mind that someone else should take it, we have never thought about changing who is going to take penalties, we have the confidence in him Benzema that he will score when the need arise and he just did what was expected.
