We received $105K for African Games coverage, not $3m
Clarification on Funding for African Games Coverage
The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) has clarified that it received $105,000 for its coverage of the African Games, contradicting the claim made by Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif, who stated that the payment was $3 million.
This discrepancy arose during a session with the Public Accounts Committee, where Ussif confirmed the larger amount had been paid to GBC.
Official Response from GBC
GBC’s Director General, Professor Amin Alhassan, responded to the Sports Minister’s assertion, emphasizing that the actual amount received was significantly lower than reported. He indicated that the funds were allocated to cover costs incurred during the Games, which included adjustments to regular programming.
This situation highlights a significant communication gap regarding the financial aspects of the African Games coverage, and the Public Accounts Committee is expected to further investigate the matter.
