Nurses are responsible for health and hygiene on compounds across the country, and it’s no secret that in order to keep thousands of Ghanaians healthy, well-fed, and active, they need a helping hand.
That’s why YEA! Ghana is recruiting 5,000 Youth Employment Agency (YEA!) graduates from the SHS to work alongside nurses in 16 regions over the next three years as part of the YEA!
Facts About the SHS
The Senior High School (SHS) is a three-year educational program that provides students with the opportunity to acquire advanced academic and technical skills.
The curriculum is designed to prepare students for tertiary education, employment, and entrepreneurship.
Currently, there are about 4 million students enrolled in SHS programs across Ghana.
YEA’s goal is to recruit 5,000 of these recent graduates to help support nurses working on CHPS compounds.
The Challenge at Hand
The COVID-19 pandemic has hit Ghana hard. As of June 2020, there have been over 15,000 and over confirmed cases and over 100 deaths. Hospitals are struggling to keep up with the demand for care, and nurses are working around the clock.
