Health workers are the foot soldiers in the global fight against poverty and disease. It’s their job to provide medical care to those who need it, from newborns to elderly patients and everything in between.

That can mean anything from providing checkups to educating communities about the importance of vaccines and water purification systems.

In many countries, health workers aren’t always easy to come by, which is why the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) Program aims to provide aid where it’s needed most through community health worker training programs around the world.

What are community health workers?

Community health workers are healthcare professionals that provide health education, care, referrals and health promotion services. They play a key role in improving the quality of life of people affected by poverty.

What does the program involve?

The community health workers recruitment will offer help in health promotion, disease prevention, general emergency medicine, communicable disease control, first aid, reproductive health and midwifery.

Who is going to be involved?

The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and The Ghana Health Services (GHS) employs hundreds of health professionals, including nurses, physicians, dentists, public health specialists, food inspectors, medical laboratory scientists.

Every person plays a critical role in safeguarding public health for us all. There are not enough community health workers in the country to deal with the myriad public health needs that continue to grow at an alarming rate.

The way we will meet these needs is by continuing our efforts through this new recruitment program.

How do I apply?

The first step is to complete an application form. This will require basic personal information, as well as your preferred work area. Upon approval, a telephone interview will be conducted for you with our health professionals for a better understanding of your goals in this field.

A section of the letter reads “The General Public is hereby informed that from Monday 19th September 2022, the Youth Employment Agency will open its recruitment portal for two major modules : Community Health Worker Programme and Community Protection Assistants Module

● Community Health Worker Programme portal will be active from 19th to 28th September. This is to allow for update by existing applicants and new applications. (All are encouraged to apply, especially women)

The program will run for two years after engagement of Beneficiaries.

● Community Protection Assistants Portal will be live from 19th September to 14th October 2022.

The program will run for two years, effective from the date of engagement. All potential beneficiaries are encouraged to apply”.

Who is a Community health workers?

Community health workers are indigenous people who live in rural areas of countries. These individuals visit other families in their communities to promote hygiene, provide education on how to identify when a person has HIV/AIDS, provide testing and treatment for HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis (TB), malaria, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

They also educate them on how they can live healthier lives by providing family planning information.

How much does a treatment cost?

The cost of the treatment are catered by the government of Ghana in collaboration with the Youth Employment Agency (YEA).
